A detached garage was completely destroyed in an early morning fire in South Glens Falls, New York, on Friday (February 6).

The South Glens Falls Fire Company responded to the scene at approximately 1:59 a.m. after receiving reports of a garage fire. Assistant Chief Corlew, who was first to arrive, confirmed an active fire and expressed concerns about flames potentially spreading to nearby structures.

Firefighters faced significant challenges during their response, including frigid temperatures, initial water supply issues, and limited available personnel. Despite these obstacles, crews quickly brought the blaze under control through coordinated efforts.

The Greenfield Fire District was automatically dispatched to provide a Firefighter Assist and Search Team (FAST), while the West Glens Falls Volunteer Fire Company was called to assist with an additional engine at the scene.

While the garage was deemed a total loss, fire officials reported that the nearby residence sustained only minimal heat damage. Investigators from Saratoga Cause and Origin determined the fire resulted from an electrical issue. No injuries were reported in the incident.

The early morning fire occurred on the same day that Catholic Central School announced an emergency closure due to a water main break that prevented water from reaching the building. School officials expect to welcome students back on Monday.
