Eddie Bauer, the outdoor apparel retailer, is closing its stores in Colonie and Lake George as part of a broader plan to shutter all North American locations. This decision comes amid the company's ongoing restructuring efforts following its recent filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. Employees at the Colonie store, located in the Northway Shopping Center, have been informed that the store will close by April 30, while the Lake George location will also shut its doors by the same date, according to reports from the Times Union.
The closures are part of Eddie Bauer's plan to wind down operations across the United States and Canada, affecting approximately 180 stores. The company has cited declining sales and the challenges facing brick-and-mortar retail as reasons for the closures. The financial strain on Eddie Bauer has been exacerbated by supply chain issues, inflation, and reduced consumer spending on outdoor apparel.
Customers with Eddie Bauer gift cards or rewards points are advised to use them by March 12, as the company moves through its liquidation process. All sales are final, and returns are no longer accepted. Despite the store closures, Eddie Bauer will continue its online and wholesale operations.
The company, owned by Catalyst Brands, is seeking a buyer to potentially acquire some of its stores. If no buyer is found, the closures will proceed as planned, with all stores expected to be shut by May.
