The Schenectady Greenmarket will host its third annual skin cancer screening event on Sunday (March 8) from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the Guild Room of Proctors Theatre. This initiative, organized in partnership with the Capital District Dermatologic Society, aims to promote community health and raise awareness about skin cancer risks.

Each screening session will last 15 minutes, with medical students from Albany Medical College assisting experienced dermatologists. The event is open to the public, and those interested are encouraged to sign up online in advance. Walk-ins are also welcome, but early arrival is recommended.

Paytra Klein, a third-year medical student and member of the Greenmarket board, played a key role in organizing the event. Klein, whose parents are dermatologists, expressed her passion for increasing public awareness about skin protection.

The screenings at the Schenectady Greenmarket mark the first effort of the year to raise awareness about skin cancer. Plans are underway to conduct similar screenings for firefighters in the region and expand outdoor sunscreen stations.
