Mike Lawler, a Republican Congressman from New York's 17th District, recently discussed the joint military action taken by the United States and Israel in Iran. In an interview with CBS6's Tom Eschen, Lawler addressed the legality and implications of the military strikes initiated by the Trump Administration.

The military action, which began five days ago, targeted Iran's naval fleet, ballistic missile program, and other military assets. Israel has also conducted strikes against the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and Iran's clerical leadership. Lawler emphasized the mission's specificity and the necessity of these actions, stating, "Iran has been at war with the United States for 47 years. These are the same folks who chant 'Death to America' every time they wake up."

Lawler also highlighted the importance of ensuring national security and expressed his support for passing Department of Homeland Security (DHS) funding to maintain safety at home. The ongoing conflict has raised questions about the War Powers Act and the need for Congress to be notified about military actions.
