Colonie police have identified Charles Flannagan, 89, of Loudonville, as the victim of a fatal two-car crash that occurred Friday (March 20) morning on Central Avenue, just west of New Karner Road. The collision happened around 8:30 a.m., resulting in significant damage to both vehicles, a white SUV and a gray SUV, and sending one vehicle into a utility pole, according to NEWS10 ABC.
Police said that Flannagan, who was driving the white SUV, was found unconscious at the scene. Despite CPR efforts, he was pronounced dead. The passenger in Flannagan’s vehicle sustained serious injuries and was transported to Albany Medical Center. The driver of the gray SUV was hospitalized with minor injuries, as reported by Accident Injury News.
Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the crash and continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. The Colonie Police Department is urging anyone with information to contact its Traffic Safety Division at (518) 783-2754.
According to the NEWS10 ABC report, both vehicles were heavily damaged, and the crash led to temporary road closures in the area. As the investigation moves forward, officials have not released further details about contributing factors or potential charges.
