A driver was rescued from a partially submerged car after it went into a pond at The Lofts apartment complex in Menands on Tuesday (March 24) afternoon. According to the Menands Fire Department, emergency crews from Menands, West Albany Fire, and Colonie EMS responded quickly to the scene after receiving a call about a vehicle in the water with someone inside.
Arriving first responders found the car in the front pond with a person still in the driver’s seat. Firefighters from both Menands and West Albany secured a rowboat and used it to reach the vehicle. They were able to safely remove the driver and bring them to shore, where the individual was evaluated by EMS before being taken to a hospital for further treatment.
As of Wednesday (March 25), officials have not released details about the driver’s condition or any information about what caused the car to end up in the pond. Eyewitness reports described a rapid emergency response, with one visitor to the area, Samantha Trupo, saying, "I was out front and immediately saw cops speed in, and he ran up to the boathouse and grabbed a boat... Then we drove over here and immediately saw the car in the water."
Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident. Updates on the driver's condition and the cause of the accident are expected as more information becomes available. For more details, see coverage from NEWS10 ABC.
