Gavin Doty, a standout player for Siena University's men's basketball team, is set to enter the NCAA transfer portal. This decision follows the recent departure of Siena's coach, Gerry McNamara, who has taken the head coach position at Syracuse University. Doty, a 6-foot-5 sophomore, was a key player for Siena, averaging 18 points per game this season and earning the title of MAAC Tournament MVP.

Doty made a significant impact during the NCAA Tournament, scoring 21 points in Siena's opening-round loss to Duke. His performance has put him on the national radar, and he is now considering a move to Syracuse, where he could reunite with McNamara. Doty, originally from Fulton, New York, expressed his desire to continue playing under McNamara, saying, "I plan on playing for G-Mac through my whole career."

Doty's entry into the transfer portal, which opens on April 7, is expected to attract interest from multiple high-major programs. His agent, Drew Gross of WME Basketball, is handling inquiries from various schools. Doty's move could also lead to a significant increase in name, image, and likeness (NIL) opportunities.

Doty's journey at Siena began with a slow start, but he quickly rose to prominence, becoming the first player in the program's history to score 991 points in just two seasons. His relentless effort and competitive nature have earned him praise from McNamara, who described him as a "maniac competitor."

As Doty prepares to explore new opportunities, Siena will begin its search for a new head coach to lead the team in the upcoming season.
