An Albany man who admitted to a deadly stabbing on Sheridan Avenue is set to be sentenced Tuesday (March 31) in Albany. Anthony Boyd, age 36, pleaded guilty in January to first-degree manslaughter after attacking 29-year-old Devin Brevard in the early morning hours of September 25, 2025. Brevard died from his injuries at Albany Medical Center Hospital, according to the Albany County District Attorney’s Office and reports by WNYT.

Police responded to a report of a stabbing near Sheridan Avenue and Henry Johnson Boulevard around 6:10 a.m. that day. Officers found Brevard bleeding and called emergency medical crews, but he later died at the hospital. Authorities were able to identify Boyd as the attacker using witness statements and surveillance video footage. He was arrested several hours later near First Street and Lexington Avenue, as confirmed by Times Union.

Boyd’s guilty plea resolved murder and other charges that had been filed after the incident. He faces 23 to 25 years in state prison, along with five years of post-release supervision. If he had been convicted of second-degree murder, he could have faced up to 25 years to life in prison, according to WRGB.

The sentencing is scheduled before state Supreme Court Justice Thomas Marcelle. Prosecutors expect the sentence to reflect the plea agreement.
