The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for several counties in the Albany region today (April 9), indicating an increased risk of wildfires. The warning is in effect from noon to 6 p.m. and covers Albany, Schenectady, Rensselaer, Montgomery, Saratoga, Warren, and Washington counties.
This warning comes as weather conditions, including wind speeds of 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 30 mph, low humidity levels between 20% and 30%, and temperatures in the upper 50s, create an environment conducive to the rapid spread of fires. Residents are advised to remain vigilant and avoid outdoor burning, as New York State's annual spring burn ban is in effect through May 15.
According to NEWS10, the warning also extends to parts of the Hudson Valley, including Greene, Columbia, Ulster, and Dutchess counties. Meteorologist Rosemary Webb emphasized the importance of adhering to the burn ban, noting that any fires that do start could spread quickly under the current conditions.
