Schenectady County Public Health Services is organizing two free naloxone training sessions on Tuesday (April 15) at the Bornt Branch Library Program Room on State Street in Schenectady, New York. These sessions are scheduled from noon to 1 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The training aims to equip residents with the skills to recognize signs of a drug overdose and administer naloxone, a medication used to reverse opioid overdoses. Attendees will receive free naloxone kits and testing strips for fentanyl and xylazine. These resources are part of the county's ongoing efforts to address the opioid crisis.

According to Spectrum News, Schenectady County Legislator Michelle Ostrelich emphasized the importance of these sessions, stating, "Residents learn life-saving skills through naloxone training and gain the confidence to help someone in an emergency."

For those unable to attend in person, online training is available through the Schenectady County Library. Participants can still obtain free naloxone kits upon completion of the online course.
