A Coeymans woman remains behind bars following her arrest on felony drug charges after authorities discovered more than 300 grams of cocaine during a search of her residence.
Albany County deputies executed a search warrant on Tuesday (April 14) at an address on Westerlo Street in Coeymans as part of an ongoing narcotics investigation. The operation resulted in the arrest of Carmita Figueroa, 49, who was found in possession of a substantial quantity of cocaine.
Authorities believe Figueroa intended to distribute the narcotics based on both the weight of the drugs seized and the discovery of packaging materials at the location. Such materials are commonly associated with drug distribution operations, suggesting preparation for street-level sales.
The investigation that led to Tuesday's search warrant remains ongoing, though officials have not disclosed additional details about the scope of the inquiry or whether other suspects may be involved. Figueroa faces felony charges related to drug possession with intent to distribute.
The case reflects broader efforts by law enforcement agencies across New York to combat narcotics trafficking. Similar operations in the Capital Region have resulted in numerous arrests as authorities work to disrupt drug supply chains and remove dangerous substances from communities.
Figueroa remains in custody as the legal process moves forward. Prosecutors will likely present evidence of the seized cocaine and packaging materials to support charges that carry significant potential prison sentences under New York state law.
The arrest underscores the continued challenges communities face regarding drug trafficking and the persistent efforts of law enforcement to address the problem through targeted investigations and enforcement actions.
