Homeless Man Dead Following Spa City Fight

A homeless man died following a violent altercation on a Saratoga Springs street on Tuesday (April 14). Police responded to a call at West Avenue near Station Lane around 7:30 a.m. and found 44-year-old John "Clay" Williamson Jr. bleeding heavily. Despite the quick arrival of officers, Williamson was pronounced dead at Saratoga Hospital.

The suspect, identified as 52-year-old Kyle Baker, was taken into custody at the scene. Baker, also homeless, has been charged with second-degree murder. According to Saratoga County District Attorney Brett Eby, Williamson was killed with a knife. The police have stated that the individuals involved in the incident are cooperating with the investigation, and there is no ongoing threat to the public.

The investigation is ongoing, with authorities focusing on several areas including Stewart’s Shop at 87 West Ave., Station Lane, and the American Legion at 34 West Ave. Police are asking anyone with information, or video footage from around 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, to come forward. New York State Police and the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office are assisting in the investigation.
