Residents in parts of Rotterdam are still under a boil water advisory following a water main break on Wednesday (April 15). The break occurred near the intersection of Guilderland Avenue and Lawndale Avenue, prompting officials to issue the advisory as a precaution against potential bacterial contamination.
The advisory affects homes on Floral Avenue from Curry Road to Willow Street, Willow Street from Floral Avenue to Guilderland Avenue, and all apartments in Esquire Village on Curry Road. Residents in these areas are advised to boil water for at least one minute before using it for drinking, cooking, or brushing teeth.
The water main break has led to the closure of Guilderland Avenue between Curry Road and Vinewood Avenue, causing traffic disruptions. Local authorities have urged drivers to find alternate routes while repairs are underway. According to Times Union, the Schenectady County Public Health Department is conducting tests to ensure the water is safe for consumption.
Rotterdam Town Supervisor John Polimeni stated that crews are working diligently to repair the break, but it remains unclear how long the advisory will last. As reported by Daily Gazette, the situation is ongoing, and residents should stay updated through local news outlets.
The advisory serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining infrastructure and ensuring public safety. Residents are encouraged to follow the advisory until further notice from local authorities.
