A tragic single-car crash in New Scotland claimed the life of a 59-year-old man from Greenville on Monday (April 20). According to the Albany County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to the scene near Clarksville South Road and Dunbar Hollow Road at approximately 6:26 a.m.
The driver, identified as Frank A. Chappell, was traveling northbound in a 2015 Kia Soul when the vehicle veered off the road, struck multiple trees, and came to rest in a wooded area. Chappell was transported to Albany Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. A 21-year-old female passenger, who also sustained injuries, was taken to the same hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigators suspect that a medical event may have contributed to the crash. The Albany County Sheriff's Office is continuing its investigation, with an autopsy scheduled for Tuesday (April 21) to determine the exact cause of the incident.
The community mourns the loss of Chappell as authorities work to uncover more details about the circumstances leading to the crash.
