A jury in Schenectady, New York, has convicted Joshua Hunter, 47, of assault following an incident at The Littles Play Cafe in Latham. On February 23, 2025, Hunter confronted a 43-year-old man for speaking to his daughter and subsequently punched him in the face outside the cafe. The victim suffered severe injuries, requiring nasal reconstructive surgery.

The courtroom found Hunter guilty of assault and seven counts of endangering the welfare of a child, as several children were present during the altercation. Hunter remains in custody at the Albany County Correctional Facility, awaiting sentencing on June 24.

The case has drawn attention due to the public setting of the incident and the presence of children. Prosecutors emphasized the need to protect public spaces from violence. Hunter's defense argued mitigating circumstances, but the jury delivered a guilty verdict.
