Alabama Crimson Tide defensive back Dre Kirkpatrick Jr. was arrested over the weekend during his team's bye week, according to jail records obtained by AL.com.

Kirkpatrick, the son of Alabama legend and former NFL cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick Sr., was charged with three counts of reckless endangerment, one count of attempting to elude and speeding before being released from Tuscaloosa County Jail on a $1,500 bond within an hour of being booked Saturday (November 1) afternoon. The circumstances leading to the defensive back's arrest weren't immediately made clear at the time of AL.com's report on Sunday (November 2).

An investigation into the incident is reportedly being led by University of Alabama campus police. A spokesperson for the University of Alabama's athletic department issued a statement to AL.com confirming that the program's knowledge of the incident.

“We are aware of an incident involving Dre Kirkpatrick Jr. and are working to gather more details at this time,” the spokesperson said.

Kirkpatrick was the first legacy commit during former head coach Nick Saban's tenure, with his father playing for Saban from 2009 to 2011, which included winning two BCS national championships and being named as a First-team All-American and two-time Second-team All-SEC, before being selected by the Cincinnati Bengals at No. 17 overall in the 2012 NFL Draft. The elder Kirkpatrick played in the NFL from 2012 to 2021, having spent his first eight seasons with the Bengals, the 2020 season with the Arizona Cardinals and 2021 season with the San Francisco 49ers.

The younger Kirkpatrick has recorded 12 tackles, one pass defended and one forced fumble in 21 appearances during his college career and rated as a three-star prospect and ranked as the No. 91 safety, No. 42 player from the state of Alabama and No. 861 overall prospect for the 2024 national recruiting cycle, according to the 247Sports Composite.
