The House Ways and Means Committee is considering letting tax breaks for the richest Americans expire, which would return their top income tax rate to 39.6% from the current 37%. This change could impact approximately 1.5 million households and cut about $409 billion of the cost, according to the Tax Foundation, a right-leaning think tank. Another option is to create a new tax bracket for the wealthy, potentially raising $59.3 billion over a decade.

Despite these discussions, Trump's proposal remains uncertain, as it faces significant opposition within his party.
