Charges announced in relation to a fatal fire on Jay Street in Schenectady in March 2015 that was originally termed accidental.
Prosecutors say two local men are accused of misconduct and each face 4 counts of manslaughter, one for each person who died in the fire. Kenneth Tyree is a code enforcement officer for the city of Schenectady. District Attorney Bob Carney says Tyree is accused of making false statements and forgery in relation to the fire. Jason Sacks of Scotia was the property manager. He is accused of being aware of dangerous building conditions and failing to maintain proper fire alarms.
Carney says although the fire may have started accidentally, the death and destruction was preventable.
Four people were killed in the fire, seven others were injured. Over 60 people were displaced.
