The forecast for this weekend is a bit iffy but that isn't stopping preparations for the 69th Annual Albany Tulip Festival, coinciding with Mother's Day.
The City of Albany's head gardener Jessica Morgan says the threat of rainy weather isn't bad for the tulips. "Tulips are actually pretty hardy even as they bloom, so most of them will just close up their pedals up really tight and the water will just roll right off of them."
New this year is the Cultural Heritage Tent, which has information about Albany's Dutch roots and also the 70th anniversary of the city-wide humanitarian effort that helped inspire the very first Tulip Festival. The coronation of the Tulip Queen is Saturday at Noon. The Mother of the Year will be awarded on Sunday at Noon. Music headliners are the Delfonics on Sunday afternoon.
