Attorney General Restricted in Investigation Due to Executive Order

Attorney General Eric Schneiderman and Governor Cuomo are monitoring the investigation into Tuesday's police-related shooting in Troy.

However, the AG does not have the authority to investigate it himself.

Reports say that a signed Executive Order by the Governor two years ago, in 2015, states that the Attorney General may only investigate deadly encounters between police and unarmed civilians.

With this information, it is determined that the order may not actually apply to the case of the shooting of 22-year-old Dahmeek McDonald, as he may or may not have been armed.

Furthermore, since McDonald did not die, the order may again not be applicable toward the investigation.

Nevertheless, this could all change if Governor Cuomo issues a new order.
