A state of emergency, which went into effect after last Thursday's massive fire in Cohoes, has now been lifted.

The fire destroyed three buildings and damaged over two dozen others with many sustaining heavy smoke and water damage.

Stores on Remsen Street that were not heavily damaged have reopened.

In the meantime, the criminal case against John Gomes, accused of accidentally starting the fire, has been turned over to an Albany County grand jury.
