Driver Arrested for January Hit-And-Run

An arrest has been made in a hit-and-run that happened on Friday, January 12th, on the intersection of Union Street and Erie Boulevard in Schenectady.

The accident severely injured James Thrackrah, who suffered a fractured skull and broken ribs.

He was taken to Albany Medical Center and is now at Sunnyview Rehab Hospital.

After a three week investigation, under arrest is 64-year-old Clifford Oathout of Amsterdam.

Schenectady Police credits tips from the public in helping them with the case.

James Thrackrah's daughter, Brittney, tells News Channel 13, she has some other information on how the arrest was made.

"And he sat there and watched my father bleeding on the street, and didn't say anything, and didn't come forward, and then the guilt got to him, and he finally confessed to somebody, who turned that information into the police, and it ended up being a good lead."

She adds that when a driver, of any age or level of experience, hits something or someone, or gets into an accident, the right choices on handling the situation should be made immediately.

"It leaves such a pit in your stomach, because you know when you get in an accident, you know when you hit something, you know, whoever hit my dad knows he hit my dad, and drove away."

Oathout is charged with leaving the scene of a personal injury auto accident, which is a felony.
