Arrest Made in Midst of Citywide Violence

Albany Police say a combination of cooperation from the public and good police work has led to arrests of some of those responsible for a recent wave of violence in the city.

Following a marijuana offense, 18-year-old Zai-John Vanhoesen was arrested and charged with the shooting of a woman on the 4th of July, just before 10 PM, in the area of Central Avenue and Lark.

The 26-year-old woman is still recovering.

Police spokesman Steve Smith says these cases take time, and people need to understand that.

He adds that they want to make sure they have it right, and not put a case in court, and have it be dismissed, or the person found not guilty on some technicality.

Smith encourages city residents to say something when they see something.
