A meeting that had been set for Thursday afternoon between Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan and Curtis Sliwa, the founder of the Guardian Angels, has been canceled.
The city has called off the meeting, citing Sliwa's recent comments about newly appointed police chief Eric Hawkins. Sliwa was questioning why his organization had met resistance for being an outsider, when Hawkins comes from Michigan.
In an email to Sliwa, Sheehan's Chief of Staff Brian Shea writes, "Based on your recent radio interviews, it is clear that you have no desire to understand the City of Albany, its challenges, or its needs. It is also clear that a meeting with you would not be a productive use of our time. Thus, Thursday’s meeting is cancelled."
Sliwa will join WGY's Chuck and Kelly tomorrow morning at 7:05.
