Governor Cuomo is granting a pardon to a gay, HIV-positive man who's facing deportation after arriving in New York as an eight-year-old.
39-year-old Harveys Gomez of the Dominican has been in ICE custody since last Fall after completing probation on a drug-selling conviction from 2009.
Cuomo says Gomez has paid his debt to society, poses no threat and would face persecution in his home country. Since taking office, the Governor has issued 34 immigration-related pardons.
Harveys Gomez's home is America—he has a family here, works here and has lived here for over 30 years. We will not stand by as President Trump wages a war against our immigrant community.https://t.co/Uj521fKSpL— Andrew Cuomo (@andrewcuomo) August 21, 2018
