A new poll from Siena College says most New Yorkers will hold their Christmas shopping to under $500.
The annual holiday poll says just over half are planning to spend $500 or less on gifts this season. 27% are planning to spend between 500 and $1,000, and 19% of New Yorkers will be going all out; spending upwards of $1,000.
40% plan to do that shopping online this year. That's up, but giving is down.
68% say they'll be making donations to charitable organization, as opposed to 76% a year ago.
72% plan to put up a tree, and 2/3 say they're excited about the season.
On the issue of fruitcake? 44% say it's awful and would never eat it, but nearly half of those over 65 years of age say it's delicious. Hmm.
