New York Abortion Law Allows Abortions After 24 Weeks

Cuomo

Governor Cuomo is signing a new abortion law after it was approved today by New York State lawmakers.  The sweeping new measure comes on the 46th anniversary of the landmark Roe versus Wade decision.

The Reproductive Health Act removes restrictions on abortions after 24 weeks, decriminalizes abortions, and protects the doctors who perform them. Cuomo said the legislation sends a message "that whatever happens in Washington, women in New York will always have the fundamental right to control their own body."

The measure was immediately condemned by the New York State Catholic Conference which said the state has become a "more dangerous one for women and their unborn babies."
