A bill on the verge of passing the New York Legislature would have given non-citizens the right to vote.
The bill would’ve created an automatic voter registration system in the state that would take New Yorkers’ personal info and automatically use it to register people to vote.
Governor Cuomo says once he caught wind of it, he killed it.
The bill passed the Senate and likely would have passed the Assembly. But some lawmakers, mostly Republicans, noticed the bill would have given illegal immigrants the right to vote. Last week, Democrats gave illegal immigrants the ability to obtain State Drivers Licenses.
