Saratoga County Clerk Wants Federal Review of "Green Light" Bill

Saratoga County Clerk Craig Hayner says he is leading an effort of almost half the county clerks in New York to request a federal review of the newly signed Green Light Law, which grants illegal immigrants the right to a driver's license.

Hayner says he thinks the law circumvents federal immigration law and that New York State residents have a right to know if the Green Light Law conflicts with federal law and is unconstitutional.

Here's Hayner's complete statement released on Thursday:

"For the past six months, I’ve asserted my belief that the New York State “Green Light Bill,” recently signed into law by Governor Cuomo, circumvents federal immigration law and forces Department of Motor Vehicles employees and County Clerks to break their oath of office. I’ve asked the President of the United States of America to direct the U.S. Justice Department to review the New York State law to determine whether it is constitutional. It is in the best interest of every Saratoga County resident as well as those across New York State to know categorically whether our State lawmakers have enacted a law that conflicts with federal law and if the law is indeed constitutional."
