Albany taxi company closes after 42 years

An Albany staple for over 40 years, Capitaland Taxi ended operations Friday. The move costs 70 people their jobs. Many are blaming the proliferation of ride sharing companies in the area for pushing out the taxi cab companies. Some drivers were spotted at Yellow Cabs home base on Friday night in the hopes of getting a job there. Yellow Cab is now the only remaining taxi company in the city of Albany. Capitaland's owner, Brett Peek says competition from ride sharing services as well as higher insurance costs are what led to his decision.
