Cuomo Bans All Gatherings of Over 500 Over Coronavirus Fears

NY Gov. Cuomo And NYC Mayor De Blasio Brief On First Coronavirus Case In NY State

Governor Cuomo is ordering a ban on all gatherings of five-hundred or more people in New York State in an effort to slow down the spread of coronavirus. This goes into effect at five o'clock Friday night but it is now in effect for Broadway theaters. The rule doesn't apply to schools, hospitals, mass transit facilities and nursing homes. There are now 328 coronavirus cases in New York state with Westchester County leading the way followed by New York City. Fourteen percent are hospitalized.

Cuomo says the hospitalization rate to him is the most important number. He says they are thinking about having health care providers cancel non medical emergency surgeries to free up hospital space. The governor is asking former or retired nurses to be on standby should they need them. Cuomo is also reaching out to the National Guard to have their medical professionals on standby should they be needed. Cuomo is ordering nursing homes to ban visitors.
