Gyms Will Sue New York State For Keeping Them Shutdown

A group of health club owners on Long Island have banded together in a fight to reopen their businesses amid the pandemic. Gyms were supposed to reopen as part of Phase 4, but Governor Cuomo now says it's still unsafe to have people working out together, and he has pushed off the reopening indefinitely.

So now the gym owners are considering a lawsuit against the state, saying the longer they are closed, the more likely they will go out of business for good. A spokesman for the governor refused to comment on the lawsuit, saying it has not been filed yet.

It looks like malls across the state are going to be shut down for at least a little while longer. Governor Cuomo said Monday indoor shopping centers won't be allowed to reopen until air filters are installed that remove coronavirus particulates. Many mall operators say that's not necessary since both their heating and cooling systems are already safe. The governor is also suggesting that other businesses put these air filters in place to keep employees and customers safe.
