A universal basic income trial program is set to start soon in the City of Hudson. The group The Spark of Hudson is partnering with Andrew Yang's initiative "Humanity Forward" to give $500 per month for 5 years to 25 city residents.

“In light of the current ongoing crisis, this pilot will give a glimpse of hope to our constituents, many of whom are facing various financial burdens. We welcome out-of-the-box and innovative ideas that can better our communities,” said Hudson Mayor Kamal Johnson. “This pilot will provide a cushion for families, and this support could be life-changing.”

Those who make less than the city's median income of $35,000 are eligible for the program. A virtual town hall with more information is planned for Friday.
