Dr. Jim Malatras is appointed as the next Chancellor of the 64-school SUNY system.
He's a close ally of Governor Cuomo and has served as president of Empire State College.
Malatras is the 14th Chancellor and says he knows how great a SUNY education can be. Malatras is a University at Albany graduate.
The appointment comes without a nationwide search and was needed after Kristina Johnson stepped down from the Chancellor post for a job at Ohio State University.
