Members of the Albany Common Council believe more help is needed to curb ongoing violence in the city.

Albany has already seen over 100 shootings and 16 homicides so far in 2020. Police believe much of the gunfire is the result of ongoing disputes between gangs. For the last few months, members of the Albany County Sheriff's department have been riding with members of the police department but haven't been doing their own patrols. Sheriff Craig Apple says he's considering sending more deputies to Albany to assist.
