At least 32 Union College students have tested positive for Giardiasis, an intestinal disease that is mostly picked up in bodies of water.

It is linked to a parasite found in the water, and the college is now working on finding the direct source of the contamination. Some of the affected students have reported swimming at the Hans Groot's Kills, which runs through the campus and also at the Plotterkill Preserve in Rotterdam. Those areas of water are not designated for recreational activities.
