Some residents of Schenectady are told not to be alarmed if they hear what sounds like gunshots Thursday morning.
Blank rounds will be fired in testing areas on Jefferson Street, Foster Avenue, and Becker Street as part of the City of Schenectady's installation of gunshot detection technology. Schenectady has been increasing its use of Smart City technology and has previously added advanced LED streetlights and expanded the public wi-fi network. Now the gunshot detection technology will be tested which is touted as being capable of documenting such occurrences and immediately alerting law enforcement about the location of the gunshot detection.
