Albany County officials will not allow high-risk youth sports to begin activities on February 1st, the first day allowed by the state.

New guidance issued last week stipulates that games can resume only if county health departments allow it.

Health Commissioner Dr. Elizabeth Whalen says the decision will be based on the weekly rate of COVID positivity and that she knows it will make some people upset.

Further guidance will be released to school districts this afternoon.
