Man with Pellet Rifle at Latham Wal-Mart Released from Jail that Morning

Colonie police are out with an update after they took a man into custody following reports of a person with a pellet rifle near the Wal-Mart on Loudon Road Wednesday afternoon.

Multiple calls came in reporting that a man was running to various locations in the area, pointing a weapon at people, and attempting to steal vehicles from at least two individuals. The man was taken into custody after a brief struggle and detained. Several officers sustained minor injuries in the process. It was later determined the weapon was a pellet rifle stolen from Wal-Mart prior to the incident.

Police are now identifying the man as 25-year-old Daquan Forehand of Utica. They say he had been released on cash bail earlier in the day from Oneida County Jail where he had been in custody since March 7th, on an unrelated domestic violence charge.

After Wednesday's arrest, Forehand remains in custody at Albany Med where is he expected to undergo a mental health evaluation.

Colonie Police are thanking multiple brave witnesses who assisted them yesterday.
