Albany Officials Release Video of Protestors Outside South Station

Albany Police Chief Eric Hawkins and Mayor Kathy Sheehan discussed the events surrounding a protest that they say turned to a riot at the South Station.

On Friday, police released body camera footage of Wednesday's events.

After reviewing the footage, Hawkins and Sheehan say the actions of the officers were justified. They say protestors used tactics to distract officers and some yelled racial slurs at black police officers.

The door of the police station was chained on the inside, but a window on the door was broken.

Police then went outside to secure the station and that’s where a woman was injured when a megaphone was taken from her and pepper spray was used to disperse the crowd.

Another protest is planned Saturday at 1:00pm at Townsend Park in Albany.
