Albany police have used force to clear protesters from the area around the department's South Station.

Thursday's action happened several days after demonstrators and officers were involved in altercation outside of the building on Arch Street. Both Mayor Kathy Sheehan and Police Chief Eric Hawkins ordered the protesters to be removed because residents in the neighborhood had expressed concerns about their safety. Police say several people were arrested and at least one demonstrator was taken to the hospital.
