State legislators are considering a bill to hold gun manufacturers accountable when firearms are used illegally.

The measure categorizes the misuse of guns as a public nuisance. If passed, New York would be the first state with that type of law on the books. Lawmakers in support of the bill hope to have it passed before the session ends in June.
