An investigation by the state Attorney General's Office found Albany Medical Center has violated federal human trafficking laws.

The hospital must now pay $90,000 in restitution to nurses recruited from foreign countries who were told they must repay Albany Med if they were fired or quit their job within three years of being hired. Hospital officials claimed the provision was needed to help cover the cost of bringing nurses to the United States. In a statement, a spokesman for the hospital claimed Albany Med did nothing wrong and said that all nurses are valued.
