Albany's top cop is going to continue working for the city after withdrawing his name from a job in Ohio.

Chief Eric Hawkins released a statement Monday saying he was no longer interested in becoming the police chief in Akron, located about 40 miles south of Cleveland. Hawkins also said that while he appreciated the opportunity, he's looking forward to talking with people in the community about ways to enhance public safety. Hawkins has served as chief in Albany since being appointed back in 2018.
