Governor Cuomo says the state of emergency that has been in place since the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic is finally being lifted Thursday.

The declaration was made back in March 2020 and gave the governor the authority to take any actions he deemed necessary to protect New Yorkers from the virus. Earlier this month, many of the restrictions put in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19 were lifted after the state reached a 70 % vaccination rate among residents 18 and older. The governor is now urging people to go out to eat, shop and attend sporting events to help rejuvenate the economy.
