Both the governor's office and state Department of Health say it'll be up to schools to determine what protocols will be in place to protect people from COVID-19.
Health Commissioner Doctor Howard Zucker is recommending that schools follow local health department and federal guidance as they try and keep students and staff from getting sick. Zucker says because there's no longer a state of emergency in effect, schools are responsible for creating their own rules regarding masks, social distancing and COVID-19 testing. Classes at most schools are set to begin in a few weeks.
