With the vaccine deadline for health care workers set for Monday, Governor Hochul has released a plan to help relieve possible staffing shortages at hospitals and adult care facilities. The plan would allow heath care professionals licensed in other states or countries practice in New York. It would also allow for recent graduates, those who are retired, or formerly practicing health care workers to help out. In addition, the Governor says medically trained National Guard members could also be deployed where necessary. Currently 84% of all hospital workers in the state are vaccinated, 81% at adult care facilities and 77% at nursing homes. The mandate is facing push back from many employees and unions.
