Albany County Executive Dan McCoy says a search will start soon for a new naming rights partner after the Times Union decides to remove its name from the arena located in downtown Albany.

The facility was renamed the Times Union Center back in 2007 after previously being known as the Pepsi Arena and Knickerbocker Arena. The publisher of the Times Union said Wednesday that the time has come for another company to take over the naming rights as the media company focuses on expanding its presence in the area in different ways. The arena opened back in 1990 and has hosted some of the biggest names in entertainment and is the current home of the Siena Saints, Albany FireWolves and Albany Empire.
