The final high-ranking member of the controversial group called NXIVM has received her punishment for her crimes.

On Wednesday, a federal judge sentenced former bookkeeper 63-year-old Kathy Russell to probation and community service after she pleaded guilty to visa fraud in 2019. Prosecutors had requested Russell spend up to a year behind bars for her loyalty to NXIVM leader Keith Raniere and actions they say helped him hurt his victims. Russell's lawyers countered by saying Raniere abused her and tried to control her life. Raniere is currently serving his federal prison sentence in Arizona.
