National Grid says its customers are going to have to hand over more of their hard-earned money to stay warm this winter.

The utility company is projecting that the average person will pay about 31 % more during the cold months ahead. National Grid says this is the largest jump in monthly bills in years and the spike is being caused by higher wholesale natural gas prices. Anyone who thinks they'll need help paying their heating costs can apply for aid from the Home Energy Assistance Program.
